Making Constable blush

As announced by La Côte journal this week in the article ‘making Constable Blush’, I open my first solo exhibition in Nyon, Switzerland. Bringing together all my landscapes, dating back from as early on as 2013, up to the present day.

The exhibition is on show in the characteristic old town by lake Geneva. During this time I am also travelling to  new towns, lakes and mountainous areas around Switzerland in order to build on that collection.  La Côte Newspaper in the region have written a lovely article about my adventures, my inspirations, my studies in Florence, how I got to where I am today and what keeps me motivated. The article is titled   ‘Making Turner & Constable blush’ is a great read so I’m quite honoured.

A week in Crans Montana – 26th March:

Painting Painting at 9200m Altitude after taking the lift to ‘PLaine Mort’

It’s funny how some areas are easier to paint than others.
Last week I spent 5 days in Crans Montana, scouting the area on my skis and attempting to paint a few spots. Unfortunately the weather was changing quite often and I didn’t really have a chance to settle on any of my sketches. I even started three different paintings throughout the week but in the end all three of them were scraped off. Although this can be quite frustrating it isn’t so uncommon.  Next week I return, now knowing the area well, and equipped with a book full of pencil drawings.  Hopefully the weather behaves.  I could take a leave from Constable’s book. Many of his landscapes are slightly romanticised and the landscape altered to improve the painting.

Week 2:

This week I am in Rolle painting a landscape in the strong icy winds we are having, titled ‘La Bise glaciale’. So far I have lost 1 palette, a sun painting hat, a rubber sit mat. Oh! and two paint brushes all in the lake due to the crazy high gusts of wind! You could say it’s been a challenge, so here I’ve made a short video to show you what I’m up to.  You can click here to see the finished painting in the gallery.
